Parkside Commons was not only an example of institutional building, but also of an adaptive reuse. Professional Development Associates based in Erie, PA acquired this 103,000 square foot vacant Junior High School in Meadville, PA, with plans to renovate it into 56 residential living units and commercial office space. The scope of renovations, complexity of financing and approvals, “Historical Tax Credit” concerns, and specifications as well as age and cosmetic conditions of the building posed many obstacles. MGM General Construction completed the project on time and on budget. The apartments are now completely occupied and the facility is a showplace for future projects in the city of Meadville.
