Client: Amatech
Location: Erie, Pennsylvania
Project Type: New Construction
Building System: Butler® Pre-Engineered Metal Building
Timeline: Early 2025 (Planning) – Late 2025 (Completion)
Construction Duration: Approximately 9 months

Project Overview

Amatech has been a pioneer in reusable packaging since 1989, with founder David Amatangelo securing a pivotal patent for a collapsible plastic corrugated container. With his innovation in hand,, the company expanded to over 100,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space across multiple facilities, with its headquarters at 1460 Grimm Drive in Erie, PA.

By early 2025, Amatech transitioned to an employee-owned ESOP structure and needed additional space for engineering and prototyping while maintaining operational consistency. After purchasing an adjacent parcel, Amatech partnered with MGM Construction to design and build the largest facility the site could accommodate.

The Challenge

  1. Space Optimization: Engineering and prototyping required significant expansion without disrupting existing operations.
  2. Site Constraints: Build the largest possible facility within the available footprint.
  3. Future-Proofing: Design for long-term scalability and employee ownership goals.

MGM’s Solution

  1. Maximized Site Potential: Proposed and delivered a 14,400 sq. ft. facility with associated site work.
  2. Comprehensive Development: Included stormwater management and expanded parking to support growth.
  3. Efficient Design-Build Approach: Leveraged Butler® pre-engineered metal building system for speed and cost predictability.

Project Scope

  • Constructed a 14,400 sq. ft. building adjacent to the existing headquarters.
  • Integrated site improvements and stormwater systems.
  • Added parking to accommodate increased staff and operations.

Results

The new facility came online in late 2025, providing Amatech with the space needed to consolidate engineering and prototyping operations. This expansion supports the company’s ESOP-driven growth strategy and positions Amatech for continued innovation in reusable packaging solutions.
